Our classrooms are large and airy, with plenty of space to display artwork and projects. Attention is given to classroom layout to ensure optimum learning environment.
We have two fully-networked computer labs, which have access to the Internet and, of course, appropriate content filtering.
In order to enhance the facilities we have here, we make regular excursions to libraries, local parks, ovals, the beach, snow fields, ice skating rinks, gyms, indoor centres and swimming pools, using our school bus.
Our past students often come to coach sports and give talks, and in addition to this we also have a large number of “incursions” – whereby sports and recreational individuals come to deliver sports and activities to us. Of note over the last few years, we have had artists, musicians, zumba dance instructors, karate instructors, capoeira dance-fighting instructors, gymnasts – and many more.
We especially encourage participation in community activities, such as Harmony Day and Clean Up Australia Day and The Great Book Swap for Indigenous Literacy Foundation.
In 2017 we have completed replacing all of the asphalt areas with a permeable ground cover that is suitable to play on while also allowing water to soak into the ground to feed our many trees. Our plays areas were fully updated in January 2018.
We are alo very excited to announce that we have opened our Montessori Prep (Kindy minus 1) class with a fully trained Montessori teacher who has joined our team. Accepting enrolments now.
The Athena School is located on the heritage premises of what used to be St Joseph’s Primary School and Convent. The beautiful grounds with their huge camphor laurel and eucalyptus trees provide an aesthetic and naturally shaded environment which the students can work and play in.
